When selecting Open Knots or Filled Knots it is important to understand that both looks are very similar. When you look at a void:
Open Without Fill you see a dark-shadowy area that penetrates into the door
With Fill you see a dark area that is flush with the face of the door
Basically, with and without fill you see a dark area. Without fill there is an open void. With fill it is flush to the face.
To prevent moisture intrusion and validate the B.C. Door Limited Warranty for Wood Doors all exterior doors are required to have voids filled on exterior faces. All interior faces may be filled or open depending on the desired look.
